Artisan Made

Here’s how we craft each MexiMexi bag:

Our bags are handcrafted using a wooden base, where strips of plastic are carefully woven together. The process starts with a wooden rod that allows us to create different patterns. By combining more than thirty colors in unique ways, every bag becomes one of a kind.

This traditional weaving technique from Jalisco has been passed down for hundreds of years, from generation to generation.

Each bag is made with love

In this video, Ofelia shows us how the pattern of a bag is created. Each strip represents a number, and by combining different colors to form a pattern, the result can be truly beautiful.

Susy

Susy is in charge of our operations in Mexico, making sure everything runs smoothly from production to export. She also works closely with artisan communities in Oaxaca, building strong relationships that help us bring their beautiful traditions to the world. With her dedication and care, Susy ensures that every MexiMexi bag carries not only color and quality, but also the heart of the people who make them.

Mirna is our master artisan in Jalisco, the heart and hands behind every MexiMexi bag. She oversees the entire production process, making sure each piece is woven with care and precision. Mirna also leads the creation of custom bag orders and manages our wholesale production. With her deep knowledge of traditional weaving techniques and her passion for innovation, she keeps the spirit of MexiMexi alive in every design.

Laura is the founder of MexiMexi. Inspired by the vibrant colors and everyday beauty of Mexico, she started this project to share the tradition of handwoven bags with the world. Living in Austin, Texas, she connects the artistry of Mexican communities with people everywhere who appreciate unique, meaningful pieces. For Laura, each bag is more than an accessory — it’s a story of culture, craftsmanship, and love for simple, colorful moments.
