Our Artisan Team
Susy
Susy, originally from Oaxaca, plays a vital role in MexiMexi, overseeing the inventory and ensuring our bags make their journey from Mexico to our warehouse. Alongside her husband and their cheerful 6-year-old son, Susy has been part of the MexiMexi family since day one. With her warm energy and passion, she helps us discover new artisan families to collaborate with, spreading opportunities and creativity. Susy is also a talented weaver, and if you’ve ever found a delicate thread bracelet in your bag, it was lovingly made by her.
Mirna
Mirna is a talented artisan who helps us design new patterns and stay ahead of trends. As a single mother of four, she pours her heart into her work, always coming up with fresh ideas to innovate. Mirna is the one who brings our custom orders to life. If you've ever designed your own bag or ordered a personalized one, it was made with love and care by Mirna.
MexiMexi = Slow Fashion + Repurposed Materials + Art + Design ♥
Each of our MexiMexi bags is crafted by master artisans from Jalisco, who possess generations of knowledge and experience in weaving recycled plastic, creating truly unique pieces.
Creating a single bag can take anywhere from 6 hours to 1 week, as each one requires different weaving techniques depending on the pattern and number of colors selected.
Passion, patience, vision, and creativity are also essential ingredients in crafting something that is not only unique but also embodies the essence, authenticity, and originality that only a handmade bag can possess.
Additionally, wooden frames and recycled multicolored plastic are required for the process.
Finally, skill is needed to stretch the bag and ensure that there are no gaps or openings.
