Mexi Mexi x Keiko Furoshiki: A Fusion of Mexican and Japanese Artistry

Mexi Mexi x Keiko Furoshiki: A Fusion of Mexican and Japanese Artistry

We’re thrilled to share our newest collaboration—a unique blend of Mexican and Japanese artistry with the Mexi Mexi x Keiko Furoshiki Collection! This limited-edition series combines 19 Mexi Mexi bags with beautifully designed furoshiki wraps, thoughtfully created by Japanese-American artist Keiko Kira. When we invited Keiko to join us in creating something special, we knew this fusion of tradition, creativity, and sustainability would bring a unique touch to each piece.

The Artist Behind Keiko Furoshiki

Keiko Kira, the visionary behind Keiko Furoshiki, is known for her elegant and practical fabric wraps, which honor the centuries-old Japanese tradition of furoshiki. Growing up in Japan, Keiko was inspired by the natural beauty of seasonal changes and cultural celebrations that surrounded her. These experiences are woven into each design, capturing the essence of Japan in every wrap. Based in Kansas City, Keiko’s family-run business brings together her talents with those of her son, Tyler, and daughter-in-law, Andrea. Together, they share the beauty and sustainability of furoshiki with a new generation, offering an artful and eco-friendly alternative to traditional wrapping paper.

A Look Inside the Collection

The Garden Collection that Keiko curated for this collaboration features four unique prints, each inspired by Japan’s natural beauty and cultural symbols. Here’s a look at each:

  • White Camellia: A timeless design inspired by the graceful camellia flower, symbolizing purity and new beginnings.
  • Black Sunflower: A bold, high-contrast print that pays homage to end-of-summer sunflowers, set against a striking chartreuse background.
  • Red Flowers: Hand-drawn floral shapes bring a whimsical field of wildflowers to life, set against warm purple brushstrokes.
  • Pastel Tulips: A sentimental and feminine print capturing tulips in full bloom, symbolizing beauty through the seasons.

Each furoshiki wrap is paired with a Mexi Mexi bag, carefully chosen to harmonize with these beautiful designs. Use your furoshiki wrap to adorn your bag, as a sustainable gift wrap, or as a stylish accessory or home decor piece. With each purchase, you’re not just acquiring a product—you’re taking home a piece of tradition and a beautiful reminder of how two worlds can come together through art.

The Tradition of Furoshiki

Furoshiki wraps offer a sustainable, reusable alternative to disposable wrapping paper, making them perfect for everyday use. Each wrap is printed on recycled polyester fabric, certified by the Global Recycled Standard 4.0. At 25 x 25 inches, they’re versatile and long-lasting, ready to bring creativity and beauty into any occasion. From wrapping gifts to decorating your home, furoshiki wraps provide endless ways to add a touch of Japanese elegance and sustainability to your life.
